Uzbekistan and the World Bank Discuss Expansion of Cooperation in Digital Transformation

The discussions focused on ways to accelerate digital transformation processes in Uzbekistan, with the aim to support the creation of new jobs through the development of the digital economy and further improving the quality and accessibility of public services.
The World Bank officials welcomed the ongoing digital reforms in Uzbekistan, including in the telecommunications sector, as well as measures that the government is putting place to attract investment in expanding ICT infrastructure and in developing IT education and training programs in Uzbekistan.
Particular attention was given to the need to further advance the reforms in the areas of telecommunications and communications infrastructure, expand data hosting and cloud capabilities as well as further modernization of service delivery, including with the private sector’s participation.
The meeting also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in the areas of cybersecurity, digital service delivery, skills needed to support startup and innovation ecosystem, as well as the implementation of joint projects.
The parties also considered the implementation of the World Bank-funded Uzbekistan Digital Inclusion Project, which is currently being delivered by the IT Park under the Ministry of Digital Technologies. The project aims to support the development of the digital economy and broaden access to digital skills and employment opportunities in information technology-enabled services for thousands of young men and women, including persons with disabilities, in rural and remote locations across the country.
The parties confirmed their commitment to strengthening partnership relations, continuing practical cooperation in priority areas, and supporting initiatives aimed at promoting economic growth and improving the well-being of the population through digital economy development.
